SMETHPORT — A Smethport man has been charged with leaving a bag containing drug paraphernalia in the room of a child in a residence where he was staying.
Steve E. Dunkle, 41, with no address given, is charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of children, first-degree misdemeanors; two counts of recklessly endangering another person, second-degree misdemeanors; and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors.
According to the criminal complaint, on Jan. 25, an adult in the house where Dunkle was staying was cleaning a child’s room and found a black bag in the closet. She said the bag was open, and she saw needles and a spoon in it. She left it where it was and called police. Inside the bag were six used syringes, one new syringe, spoons including one with black residue on it and a razor. Most of the items were consistent with drug paraphernalia, police said.
The bag was located close to where two children in the home were staying, and could have accessed it, the criminal complaint stated. Dunkle had stayed in that room when the child wasn’t using it, the complaint alleged.
He was arraigned Tuesday and released on $5,000 unsecured bail. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court Feb. 20.
