Otto-Eldred Elementary students had a free day Thursday, courtesy of some issues with the sewer in the area of the school building. However, those students will be back to learning today, according to officials.
“We will be up and running as normal (Friday) in both buildings,” said Matthew D. Splain, superintendent of Otto-Eldred School District. “We are hoping that the repairs necessary can wait until summer. The issue was outside the building, mostly caused by old infrastructure under Main Street that are in need of replacement.
“Eldred Borough’s crew did a great job getting us back up and running.”
Even better news for the students (and parents), all scheduled vacation days will remain so.
“We exceed the minimum 900 hours of elementary instruction. We will not need to make up the day,” Splain said, when asked if a make-up day would need to be scheduled. “We will also apply for an emergency waiver with (Pennsylvania Department of Education).”
The high school was in session Thursday, with exceptions made for students who had to stay home with younger siblings.
