What a great way to start a Sunday morning: a hot pancake breakfast served with love by members of the community.
And at the Bradford Rotary Club’s annual all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast, diners will have another reason to feel warm. Proceeds from the event will benefit an assortment of organizations across the Bradford area.
Breakfast will be served from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the Bradford Area Lions Club’s Bradford Township Community Center.
This year, the Rotary Club is taking extra care to make the meal special, according to Rotary President Bill Chapman.
“There are some unusual and unique twists this year,” he said.
The cooks will be using locally made sausage in a variety of flavors including blueberry maple, sweet leek, and bacon, and fresh eggs will be used. People will be able to get chocolate chips on their pancakes and wash it down with a cup of juice or coffee. There will be raffles, too.
Flipping flapjacks alongside the Rotarians will be University of Pittsburgh at Bradford Rotaractors. Rotaractors are members of Rotaract, the college equivalent of the Rotary, Chapman explained.
“They help every year,” he said.
Bradford Rotary Club will use the money raised at the breakfast to give back to the Bradford community.
“We support a ton of local agencies,” said Chapman, who listed a few including CARE for Children, Futures Rehabilitation Inc., the McKean County Special Olympics, YWCA Bradford, Bradford YMCA, the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford and more.
“We’re doing this for folks in our community,” Chapman said of the fundraising event. “Everything stays local.”
The price to eat is $8 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under.
“Where can you have a wonderfully cooked meal for that price?” he said.
Chapman described the kindness of the Bradford community, a community that he says not only helps Rotary’s efforts but is also giving in many other ways.
“The community’s always very generous and supportive of what’s going on,” Chapman said.
That includes participation in the Rotary Club’s pancake breakfast, which he says the club has been holding for many years — at least 25.
The next community event on the Rotary Club’s schedule is its annual golf tournament, which is also a major fundraiser for the group.
“Once again, the community has been very supportive,” he noted of the summertime event.
The Bradford Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at noon at Beefeaters Restaurant.
