A Bradford man is in McKean County Jail after he allegedly forced his way into an apartment, assaulted one of its occupants then struggled with officers who tried to arrest him.
Joseph M. Angelo, 28, of 2 Bushnell St., Apt. 422, was arraigned Sunday before District Judge David Engman on charges of burglary, a first-degree felony; criminal trespass, a second-degree felony; simple assault, strangulation and resisting arrest, all second-degree misdemeanors; disorderly conduct, a third-degree misdemeanor; possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors.
The criminal complaint states that overnight between Saturday and Sunday, Angelo forced his way into a Bushnell Street apartment that was not his, placed a female in a chokehold — impeding her breathing — and dragged her across the floor into the hallway.
Once in the hallway, he struck her several times in the head, according to the complaint. She suffered injuries including abrasions and swelling on her head, a face laceration near her left eye and bruising all around her body.
Court records did not provide a motive for the alleged assault.
Police found Angelo at 2 Bushnell St., and when they told him he was under arrest, he allegedly refused to surrender, struggling against officers, yelling and using racial slurs. Police had to use substantial force to take Angelo into custody, according to court records.
Angelo was also in possession of methamphetamine and two items of paraphernalia: a Ziploc bag used to store meth and a metal lighter with a hidden compartment in which to hide the bag, the complaint stated.
Angelo is incarcerated in lieu of $150,000, and he is scheduled to appear in Central Court on Thursday.
