A Hazel Hurst man was jailed following an arraignment Friday on allegations that he fought with corrections officers during the intake process at the McKean County Jail on Jan. 13.
Jeffrey Paul Carney, 48, of 462 Main St., is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, second-degree felonies; two counts of simple assault one of resisting arrest and one of escape, all second-degree misdemeanors; disorderly conduct, a third-degree misdemeanor; and two counts of harassment, summary offenses.
According to the criminal complaint, state police were called to the jail Jan. 14 for a reported assault that had taken place the prior day. A corrections officer told police that Carney was in the commitment process at the jail at about 8 p.m. the previous night. When the officer told Carney he wasn’t able to bring certain items into the jail, Carney became irate and attempted to leave. The officer attempted to put Carney in handcuffs, but he refused to cooperate. The officer radioed for assistance, and Carney began to physically resist him, causing an injury to the officer’s back, the complaint stated.
A second officer arrived and the two of them had to restrain Carney with force. The second officer suffered an injury in the process as well, the complaint stated.
Carney was arraigned Friday before District Judge Bill Todd and remanded to jail in lieu of $20,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Central Court Feb. 6.
It was not immediately clear why Carney was being jailed when the incident took place.
