PORT ALLEGANY — Recently, students from the Seneca Highlands Career and Technical Center travelled to New Castle, to compete in the District 10 Skills USA competition.
The competitors were given the opportunity to demonstrate how vital career and technical education is to America’s future through their applied learning, presentations, demonstrations, speaking and employability skills. The center fared well at the competition, bringing home two individual first place and a two-person team first place, two second place and a four-person team second place, and two third place.
Skills USA is a nonprofit national student organization that serves students enrolled in a career and technical school.
First place winners for the cyber security team were Corey Williams with Cameron County and Zackary Howe with Kane; for job interview was Bryce Gold of Otto-Eldred; and restaurant service to Jade Huffman of Oswayo Valley.
Second place went to Travis Snyder of Northern Potter for diesel equipment technology; Tyler Baldwin of Smethport for automotive maintenance and light repair; and to the quiz bowl team of Elizabeth Vito and Trenton Smith, both of Kane, and Quincy Dailey of Northern Potter and Chase Trask of Smethport.
Third place went to Kolby Hosterman of Port Allegany for internetworking, and to Jordan Glover of Austin for health occupations professional portfolio.
First place students will attend the state competition for SkillsUSA in Hershey in April.
