SMETHPORT — The McKean County Conservation District is hosting several workshops for landowners with invasive plant populations and others interested in invasive plant training and pesticide update credits.
Two workshops focusing on Japanese knotweed will be held from 10 a.m. until noon Jan. 30 at the Kane Community Center and from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Sheffield Fire Hall.
Citizens with property in the Tionesta watershed can qualify and register for free knotweed treatment by MCCD, funded through a grant from the PA Dept. of Agriculture. These programs are worth 4 pesticide update credits of each: PDA Category 10-Right of Way & Weeds, and Category 23-Park/School Pest Control.
In addition, two workshops focusing on Goatsrue, a Pennsylvania and federally listed noxious weed, will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. or 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 20 at the McKean County 911 Center in Smethport. Citizens with property in McKean or surrounding counties with Goatsrue infestations can qualify and register for a free treatment program by MCCD; also funded through a grant from the PA Dept. of Agriculture.
Registration for your choice of these workshops is free; call Maddie Stanisch at 814-887-4020 at least three days in advance.
