EMPORIUM — A free four-week meditation course for youth ages 12 to 18 will be held at the Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library beginning Feb. 5.
The class session on Feb. 5 will be from 4 to 5 p.m. After that, they will be held Wednesdays from 4 to 4:30 p.m. until March 18.
The class will be led by local meditation specialist, Susan Zoschg.
“This is a great way for teens to find some balance and decompress in the middle of their week,” said Librarian Yelena Kisler. “With all the stress that being a student and teen can create, this may be a wonderful opportunity to find some relaxation in their hectic schedules.”
Forbes reported last July that in a recent review of past studies on teens and meditation, “studies on teens with anxiety and the efficacy of several mind-body methods: Mindfulness training, yoga, hypnosis, and biofeedback. All of the methods showed benefit, both in reduction of anxiety symptoms and other variables, like school performance.”
Space is limited, so participants must sign up at Cameron County High School, online or at the library no later than Friday.
