Book publishing: Former Bradford resident Charles Morris, better known as “Mickey” during his childhood in the area, has written and published his second book at the age of 81. Morris wrote to The Era and shared details on his new work, “Thanks a lot, Murphy”, which is written in two parts, one focusing on his youth in Bradford and the other on his 36 years of community service with Lions Club International. The second part is called “Tales of a Lion.”
Morris is a member of the Bradford “Class of 56” and wishes to share his good fortune with friends from his youth and family still living in the area.
Following his retirement, Morris moved to Carson City, Nev., with his wife, Sue, in 1995, to prospect for gold. Morris is currently an active member of the Carson Valley Lions Club. His “Tales of a Lion” detail his travels in the 90s, which included stops in Hong Kong and Heartland USA, as well as desert and mountain driving and various other adventures.
In his work, “Thanks a lot, Murphy,” Morris discusses harvesting his first deer in Langmaid Valley, fishing in Sugar Run Creek, time spent living with his grandparents in Custer City while his father lived and worked in Buffalo, N.Y., and then a move to Emporium related to his father’s employment.
He also talks about living in New Orleans, where he worked as a professional artist in the French Quarter and also spent 15 years employed by the Jefferson Parish Recreational Department.
In “Tales of a Lion,” Morris discusses adventures related to his time with the Lions Club, and he dedicates the work to his wife, Sue, “without whom these wonderful experiences and exciting adventure stories would never have been written.”
Through the two works, Murphy is a prominent figure. The prelude to the book is titled “Who the **** is Murphy?” and the answer, according to Morris, is “I am. You are. He is. And so is she. We are all Murphys …Murphy is our alter ego.”
