AMITY, N.Y. — A fire in Genesee Friday morning took the life of a 76-year-old man.
According to Amity-based state police, a fire was reported on Bells Brook Road at 4:30 a.m.
Troopers responded and found Charles E. Hollowell deceased at the scene.
Reports indicate the caller reporting the fire heard the smoke alarm, located a burning computer and attempted to put it out. When they were not successful, they attempted to move Hollowell and were unable to lift him or find his wheelchair. Police say at that point, the caller left the residence to call emergency services.
Police reports indicate no foul play is believed to be involved.
