Penn Elk DAR
The regular monthly meeting for Penn Elk Daughters of the American Revolution was held in January at Phyllis Cook’s home in St. Marys for dinner and Poetry Night.
Each member brought a favorite poem to recite. The poet that had the most popularity was Longfellow. Poems ranged from children’s poems to Ogden Nash and research on who really reached Concord to say “the British are coming.” Was it really Paul Revere?
Mary Ellen Badeau, Regent, explained the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution’s project for next year. The project is named “Dress for Success” and will include an effort to gather new or next-to-new clothing and accessories to provide to women who would be presenting themselves for job interviews.
The program will have two sites available in the local region: Erie and Pittsburgh. Penn Elk DAR is invited to begin to collect items to be presented to the state meeting.
The club will meet Feb. 12 at Phyllis Cook’s home. More on the Penn-Elk DAR Chapter can be found on the group’s Facebook page.
