DUKE CENTER — Missing two starters and playing a Northern Potter squad that had won four of its last six games coming into the night, the Otto-Eldred girls basketball team needed someone to step up.
On Tuesday night, that someone happened to be two girls — two freshmen — that have been leading the team all season.
Katie Sheeler and Bri Heller combined to score 33 points and powered the Lady Terrors to a season sweep of NoPo with a 47-29 victory in North Tier League play.
“We just got on the backs of our freshman and rode them,” Otto-Eldred head coach Shawn Gray said. “Bri was so dominant in the second half that you would have thought she was a four-year starter. Katie…she just did her thing and hit her shots when she was open.”
Heller’s strong night was noticeable on both ends of the court, as the Lady Terrors forward also picked up a double-double with 13 rebounds. She also added four steals for good measure.
Sheeler, meanwhile, hit three 3-pointers and has now scored 34 points over her last two games.
Leading just 12-10 after the first quarter, O-E (10-4, 8-2) went on a 35-19 run over the final three quarters.
“Morgan Dalton anchored our defensive tremendously tonight,” he said. “And because we were missing those two starters, we had girls who don’t get a lot of minutes play a lot tonight and they stepped up.”
Dalton had seven rebounds and four points and teammate Kayley Heller added two points and nine boards.
For Northern Potter (5-11, 4-7), Courtney Martin was in double figures with 12 points. Abi Anderson added seven and had her team’s lone 3-pointer.

Port Allegany 58, Austin 22
AUSTIN — One rebound shy of a triple-double, Cailey Barnett again powered the Lady Gators to a dominant NTL victory with a video-game esque statline of 21 points, 10 steals, 9 rebounds and 4 assists.
Barnett poured in 13 of those points in the first half as Port Allegany (12-2, 9-1) raced out to a 32-16 halftime advantage.
But it was the Lady Gators’ defensive prowess in the second half that turned the game into a rout. Austin (3-13, 2-9) made just one field goal in the final 16 minutes and hit only a single free throw in the fourth.
Port Allegany’s offense, meanwhile, never stopped rolling as the Lady Gators won their fifth straight NTL game by at least 15. Evin Stauffer was in double figures with 12 points, five rebounds and three assists. Bree Garzel had a big all-around game with eight points, nine steals, seven rebounds and four assists.

Galeton 20, Smethport 18
SMETHPORT — In a game that featured just 16 made field goals, the Lady Tigers hung on late to win for just the second time in their last 11 games.
In a back-and-forth final eight minutes, Smethport (7-8, 5-6) had a chance to win or tie the game off of an inbounds pass with four seconds remaining, but could not convert.
Trailing 9-6 at the half, Galeton (3-11, 2-7) limited the Lady Hubbers to just nine points over the game’s final 16 minutes.
And after scoring just once as a team in the first quarter, Cara Parsell and Jessie Evens each had six points to pace Galeton. Evans knocked down the game’s only two 3-pointers.
Smethport (7-8, 5-6), which lost for the fourth time in its last six games, got 10 points and five rebounds from Erin Herzog.
“We have to find offense from someone other than Erin down the stretch,” Smethport coach Chad Goodman said.
