The average price of gasoline across Western Pennsylvania is six cents cheaper this week at $2.838 per gallon, according to AAA East Central’s Gas Price Report. Meanwhile, the price in Bradford was $2.93 per gallon.
All states in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region saw gas prices decrease on the week. These five states saw the largest declines at the pump in the region: Delaware (-9 cents), Maryland (-6 cents), North Carolina (-4 cents), Pennsylvania (-4 cents) and Wisconsin (-4 cents).
With a 600,000-barrel build, regional gasoline stocks sit at 65.2 million barrels. Gasoline stocks have been steadily building since mid-November during which time regional refinery utilization has mostly held above 67%, paving the way for cheaper gas prices for the region.
The Western Pa. average for this week is $2.83 per gallon, compared to $2.98 during the week of Jan. 13, 2020 and $2.46 the week of Jan. 21, 2019.
The average price of unleaded self-serve gasoline in various areas is as follows: $2.92 in Erie; $2.94 in Meadville, $2.86 in Pittsburgh and $2.96 in Warren.
The national gas price average is $2.54, which is three cents cheaper than last week and a penny less than last month. Gas prices edged down in the last week as gasoline stocks grew, measuring at 258 million barrels — a stock level not recorded by the EIA in nearly a year. This, combined with decreasing winter demand, is leading to cheaper prices at the pump.
As of Tuesday, gas prices are $2.50 or less at 61% of gas stations in the country.
