CONTEST: Pennsylvania Magazine is holding a photo contest for amateur photographers — defined as those who do not make more than half of their income as a photographer. There is no fee to enter.
The contest will award prizes to the top three finishers and an honorable mention entry in each category. First place will receive $250 cash, a Pennsylvania magazine t-shirt and a one-year subscription; second place will receive $150 cash, a Pennsylvania magazine t-shirt and a one-year subscription and third place will receive $75 cash, a Pennsylvania magazine t-shirt and a one-year subscription. The honorable mention winner will receive a magazine t-shirt and a one-year subscription.
The categories are as follows: Pennsylvania Fairs and Festivals, Wildlife and Scenics. For each submission, the photographer needs to include where the photo was taken (city/area/county), when the photo was taken (specify month/year) and identify the people/wildlife/objects in the photo.
For photographs capturing anything unique, a separate note should be attached describing the circumstances for that photo.
According to the magazine, more than 80,000 readers will see the winning photographs, as they will appear in the July/August 2020, September/October 2020 and November/December 2020 issues.
Even those who do not win the contest have the potential to appear in the magazine, as the information on the contest states “a majority of (the magazine’s) yearly photo essay content is obtained from entries in this contest.” Those who are not winners will be contacted to make arrangements for one-time use of photos in the magazine.
Those interested can submit up to 15 images for the contest. Each image entered must be accompanied by a completed entry form.
Submissions can be made electronically at pa-mag.com/2020photo or by mailing photos on a CD or DVD to Pennsylvania Magazine, 2020 Photo Contest, P.O. Box 755, Camp Hill, PA 17001-0755.
The deadline is April 15, 2020. Photos can be taken any time from Jan. 1, 2017 to the present.
