SHINGLEHOUSE — A final half-court heave from Skylar Crawford was off the mark, and Oswayo Valley held on for a impressive 57-55 upset of Austin Tuesday night.
Down four with just seconds remaining in the game, Austin’s Jackson Glover drilled a three to bring the Panthers to within one of Oswayo Valley.
After OV’s Gunner Bean made one of two free throw attempts, Crawford put up a final prayer for the Panthers, but missed.
“We’re ecstatic,” Oswayo Valley coach Nick Goss said of the win. “But we realize we have to keep getting better every day to compete in each game. I think we’re finally starting to gel as a team rather than individuals, though, which is really keeping us in games.”
Bean paced the Green Wave (2-10, 2-6) with 22 points, a season high for him, and Noah Wichert added a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
“Noah’s been doing great all season,” Goss said. “He rebounds and blocks shots for us, and he’s our rim protector.”
Most of all for OV, though, the game came down to free throws. The Green Wave went 11-for-16 on the night, many of which came in the game’s most crucial moments.
“I would say we did a good job of handling the pressure down the stretch and of getting it to our free-throw shooters,” Goss said.
Jackson Glover poured in 22 points for Austin (6-6, 3-5) and added 11 rebounds and seven steals, while Parker Glover scored a team-high 23. Crawford (4 points) pulled down five boards and chipped in two assists on the night.
“Jackson Glover is a handful,” Goss said. “He hit a couple big threes to keep them in it.”
Both teams return to action Thursday night, as Oswayo Valley hosts Otto-Eldred and Austin travels to Galeton.

Port Allegany 57, Northern Potter 47
ULYSSES — Despite an eye-popping nine threes from Northern Potter, Port Allegany managed to escape with a 10-point road win.
Port A (5-7, 4-4) made just three treys of its own, but shot 18 more free throws than the Panthers (6-6, 3-5) as part of a 16-for-27 night from the line. By contrast, NoPo went 5-for-9.
The dynamic duo of Jordan Card and Howie Stuckey did the heavy lifting for the Gators, as Card scored a game-high 22 points and Stuckey added 15. Carter Moses chipped in eight points, as well.
Northern Potter was paced by Carter Anderson double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds. Ryan Langworthy added 11 points for the Panthers, which led 15-13 at halftime but didn’t lead after any of the other quarters.
“We made some mental errors and had a player injured in last night’s game (Tanyan Brown) and another in school this morning,” said NoPo coach Derek Erway. “We did what we could do, but just couldn’t finish and it cost us easy baskets.”
Both teams return to the court Thursday, as Port A visits Johnsonburg and Northern Potter hosts Cameron County.

GALETON — In what Red Raiders head coach Mark Guido described as an “outstanding game,” Dino Brown had 23 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists to lead Cameron County to another decisive league win.
Brown’s big performance helped the Red Raiders (8-2, 7-1) score a massive 44 points in the first half. Teammate Caden Beldin hit a game-high two 3-pointers and finished with 20 points. It was the third straight game that both Beldin and Brown had at least 20 points each.
More impressively than the duo’s offensive contributions, however, may have been the Red Raiders’ defense in the second half.
After scoring 26 first-half points, Galeton made just one shot — a third quarter two-pointer — over the final 16 minutes as they were outscored 30-2 to end the game.
Ty Stover had nine points and Noah Shutt eight for Galeton (0-13, 0-7).

ST. MARYS — Elk County Catholic gave up just one point in each quarter en route to a dismantling of Curwensville in Allegheny Mountain League play.
Mark Kraus led the Crusaders (13-0, 6-0) with 14 points, and Regis Wortman chipped in 10. In all, 10 different Elk Catholic players scored on the night.
Curwensville (1-8, 0-4) was led by Scott Candon’s three points.

DUBOIS — After a sluggish start that saw Ridgway up just three after the first quarter, the Elkers took over for a 45-26 win.
Ridgway (8-4, 3-1) grabbed an 8-5 advantage after the first quarter before taking a 25-13 lead into halftime and then a commanding 35-18 lead into the fourth.
Zack Zameroski paced the Elkers with 16 points, and Matt Dush added 12.
DCC (2-10, 2-3) was led by Daunte Armanini’s seven points.
