EMPORIUM — A Port Allegany man was killed and an Emporium man seriously injured in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday night in Shippen Township.
According to Emporium-based state police, motorist Mark A. Shaffer, 55, of Port Allegany, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other motorist, Robert L. Setzer, 22, of Emporium, suffered serious injuries. Neither was wearing a seatbelt, police said.
Reports indicate Shaffer was a chiropractor with an active practice in Port Allegany.
Police stated that at 9 p.m. Tuesday, a pick-up truck driven by Shaffer was traveling south on Route 155, when it crossed the center line near the intersection with Nickler Road and struck a pick-up truck driven by Setzer that was traveling north. Both trucks continued south after impact and came to rest on the east side of Route 155.
Setzer was transported via Cameron County Ambulance Service to Penn Highlands Elk for treatment, police indicated. Also assisting on scene were the Emporium Fire Department and Fire Police and the Cameron County coroner.
The investigation continues.
