TUNKHANNOCK — Lucas Laktash won the 126-pound weight class to lead Bradford to a ninth-place finish out of 32 teams at the Tunkhannock Tournament over the weekend.
Laktash, a freshman, posted a 5-0 record as Bradford scored 97 points as a team.
“Both days (Lucas) just took it to everybody,” said Bradford head coach Jamey Miller. “The semifinals match was against the No. 1-seeded kid, and Lucas had to fight his way out of the middle of the bracket. It was a long, drawn out battle that went all three (periods). He pinned everybody else within two.”
Joining Laktash in podium honors were Brett Thompson (138 pounds) and Derek Sunafrank (170 pounds). Thompson went 5-1 and finished third in his class, while Sunafrank finished 4-1 for a runner-up spot.
Quinn Lasher (113), Jacob Lucco (120), Michael Gow (182) and Andy Crainz (220) each went 1-2 during the tourney, while Elijah Fitton (132), Drake Hayden (145) and Dylan Mazzone (HWT) each went 2-2 for the Owl grapplers, which were missing a few wrestlers due to injuries and illness.
“We still did okay, all considered,” Miller said. “You figure, we have one senior and one junior wrestling, and the rest are all freshmen and sophomores. I can’t complain at all. We just have to keep grinding and improving, and getting everybody healthy will be huge.”
Bradford travels to Otto-Eldred on Monday, Jan. 6 to face the O-E/Oswayo Valley co-op program.
