ERIE — A St. Marys woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash Monday morning on Interstate 90 in Harborcreek Township near Erie.
Erie-based state police said a 33-year-old female suffered fatal injuries in the crash. They did not release her name, saying the investigation is ongoing and it was unconfirmed if next of kin had been notified.
According to police, at 6:45 p.m. Monday, a 2015 Toyota Corolla driven by the St. Marys woman was traveling west in the left lane of I-90 just east of the exit 35 off-ramp for Harborcreek. A Ford Explorer driven by a 48-year-old female from Girard was traveling west in front of the car. The car hit the driver’s side rear bumper and quarter panel of the Explorer with its front bumper, causing the car to go out of control and come to rest in the left lane of I-90 west, facing north. A Buick Lacrosse driven by a 69-year-old male from North East was unable to stop in time, and struck the car’s passenger side, pushing the car into the right lane curb where it came to rest.
Police said the driver was not using a seatbelt, was transported to UPMC Hamot where she died. Two passengers in the car were injured — a 2-year-old female and a newborn male, both from Girard. Both were taken to UPMC Hamot for evaluation and treatment.
The drivers of the other two vehicles were taken to UPMC Hamot for evaluation and treatment of suspected minor injuries, police said.
Assisting on the scene were Harborcreek Hose Co., Emergycare, Brookside Fire Department, Fairfield Hose Co., Millcreek paramedics, Kuhl Hose Co. and Stancliff Hose Co.
Police said the road was closed for several hours after the crash.
