‘Tis the season: This time of year is a flurry to make sure children have the chance to see Santa and to write him that all-important letter. Arvil Haggard of Kane submitted a letter to Santa to The Era and we are sharing it with our readers below:
Dear Santa,
I’m writing you now
I’m old enough I know how
I want a big tree with lots of lights
And silver stuff that’s shiny and bright.
I would like a puppy to be my friend,
A purple collar to show who he is
With a shiny name tag
With my name and his.
I would like a sand box
For me and my puppy to play,
A dump truck and high lift
So I can move sand.
I know I’ve been good and not too bad
I will be happy and not sad.
And Santa, make mom and dad
Be happy and not yell at each other anymore.
Thank you Santa, I don’t want anymore.
Arvil Haggard

As a follow up of the RTS article on Dec. 9 that mentioned the efficiency of our post office in the earlier days, Madeline Miles shared a story of days past:
“I have a story that took place in 1969 or 1970.
I used to write a weekly letter to my mother and grandmother who lived at 23 Williams St. I usually addressed the letter to The Girls, 23 Williams st., Bradford, PA… one day in a rush I addressed the letter to The Girls, Bradford, PA. And believe it or not it was correctly delivered. Now that was post office efficiency in the olden days.”

Track Santa: The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is a United States and Canada bi-national organization charged with the missions of aerospace warning, aerospace control and maritime warning for North America. NORAD offers a fun way to track Santa on Christmas Eve.
The website, www.noradsanta.org, launched Dec. 1, and a Facebook page, titled Norad Tracks Santa, is live in preparation.
Updates on Santa’s progress are posted regularly on Dec 24, including photos of the staff who are festively dressed for the occasion and photos of where Santa is as his trip progresses.
