EMPORIUM — The Olkosky-Jessop American Legion Post 194 in Emporium hosted the
American Red Cross Blood Mobile on Dec. 12, with a total of 28 pints donated.
Three donors reached milestones. Robert “Bunny” McLean reached 22 gallons having given 176 times in his life. Next, was Judy Erskine with 16 gallons or 128 pints. And then, Laverta “Sis” Miller reached 11 gallons, 88 pints.
There were five “double” donors, who actually give plasma instead of red blood: Mike Zerbe, Peggy Letterman, Brock Belkowski, Martha Patros and Donald Bowser. This process takes about double the time but it is so greatly needed and appreciated.
Donating blood is said to be “A Gift of Life” as many will agree.
There is always a great need for blood during emergencies, but blood is also needed daily for many routine medical procedures.
The next blood drive in Emporium will be on Feb. 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
