WASHINGTON — On Tuesday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R. 1158 and H.R. 1865, a pair of bills to fund government operations through Fiscal Year 2020 by a vote of 280-138 and 297-120 respectively.

Congressman Glenn Thompson, R-Pa., voted in support of H.R. 1158, which funds defense and homeland security operations, and in favor of H.R. 1865, which funds domestic spending. Upon conclusion of the votes, Thompson said, “While no appropriations package of this magnitude is going to be perfect, I voted to support our critical defense and national security operations that keep our country—and the men and women defending it—safe. This includes $1.375 billion in new border wall funding, while maintaining presidential authority over construction and border security operations.”

Regarding the second bill, Thompson said, “Similarly, the second vote contained significant domestic policy advancements, particularly for rural America, in the form of substance abuse prevention and resources to combat the national opioid epidemic, as well as increases to rural broadband and rural development programs, which help foster an environment for economic growth and opportunity.”
