Although the morning may be wet, today’s festivities in Downtown Bradford will be blessed with snowy holiday cheer as the day progresses.
Those headed out to enjoy Old-Fashioned Christmas or other outdoor fun should bundle up in preparation for some cold and snow.
According to Matt Steinbugl, a National Weather Service meteorologist from State College, rain is likely in the morning.
“Then, some colder air is coming in for the afternoon and evening, so that will change to snow. (As of Friday afternoon), it looks like you could pick up one to three inches of snow by (Saturday) night,” Steinbugl said.
This means good news for those who enjoy outdoor winter fun. Today’s activities on Main Street include horse-drawn carriage rides, ice skating in PNC Bank parking lot and carolers making the rounds. There are also indoor specials at various businesses, the local Artisan Holiday Market is open and gift wrapping is available courtesy of the Bradford Area High School cheerleaders.
Meanwhile the Winter Wine Walk, complete with snow, is all set for 4 to 8 p.m. this evening.
For those who aren’t fans and are holding out hope that the weather will warm up again, those days are seemingly behind us for now.
“Through Dec. 22, it looks like temperatures will stay near to below average, with no big warm-ups in sight that would melt the snow,” Steinbugl stated.
Steinbugl explained the predicted high for today is 37, while Monday’s high will be a bit lower at 33.
Along those lines, the weather for Saturday night through Monday looks cold and wintry, perfect for December and the upcoming holidays.
“It will be colder and breezy Saturday night into Sunday. You’ll see some lake effect snow, with additional accumulation of one inch or less through Sunday,” Steinbugl said. “There will be a brief pause in the active pattern later Sunday, then another period of snow and ice on Monday.”
