Poems: Today, we have two more of Frances Wolfe Haight’s poems to share for the holidays.
A Picture
Picture yourself sitting on a camel,
And traveling very far,
You are watching up at heaven
And keeping your eye on a special star.
The star is brighter than the others,
It seems to guide you the right way,
Being a wise man of sorts,
You know you must follow its ray.
You’re not comfortable on this ride,
Yet you know you are right,
You and two other men
Must travel through the night.
The town of Bethlehem now can be seen,
The three of you must go there,
The new baby is to be your King,
And must be worshipped if you dare.
At last you are at the stable,
Seeing the family and the boy,
According to Holy Scripture,
Everyone there is filled with joy.
———
Are you Hot or Cold
The snow appears for Christmas,
And comes down so very fast,
It’s beautiful to see
But we don’t want it to last.
The same thing is in our hearts,
Are you hot or cold?
If you have a special warm feeling
Then you have found the gold.
You can dislike the cold and wet,
You can look for comfort and heat,
But be sure to look for Jesus
And other problems, don’t repeat.
He is the only one worth worship,
After all the songs are sung,
He’s the only one to love you
After all the bells have rung;
So get excited with the love
And experience a sudden heat,
Sing and dance with forever joy
And tell every person you meet.
