WESTFIELD — Ryan Langworthy went the first 31 minutes and 50 seconds of Monday’s game with just a single point on a made free throw.
Suffice it to say that the Northern Potter junior saved his best for last.
With his team trailing for most of the fourth quarter, Langworthy hit a 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining to send NoPo to a 59-58 victory over Cowanesque Valley in non-league boys hoops play.
Pacing the Panthers (2-0) all the way up until the final minute was Carter Anderson. The sharpshooter had 36 points — including 13-of-13 at the free-throw line — before fouling out to help get his team back in the game.
“Luckily Carter was on, but the other guys were having a rough time making shots” NoPo coach Derek Erway said. “But we were still playing hard and we went into a press for the second half and especially in the fourth quarter and it set us up for the win.”
Ezra Sprow had another strong game for Northern Potter, hauling in 10 rebounds to go with his four points. He also made registered the assist to Langworthy on the game-winning shot.
Owen Fitzwater and Joe Heck scored 16 and 15 points, respectively, to lead the Indians offense.
Northern Potter, which had just three wins all of last season, will look to equal that total Wednesday at Cameron County.
