Women’s Literary Club
Women’s Literary Club met at the Bradford Area Public Library on Friday. The meeting was called to order by President Patti Neidich. The club welcomed one guest, Barb Black, to the meeting.
Two books were recommended to club members. “The Peacock Emporium” by Jojo Moyes was suggested by Fran Runyan. Carol Kirsch enjoyed reading “As Bright As Heaven” by Susan Meissner. Sandra Haley informed the group that the book “Just Mercy” has been made into a movie.
President Patti Neidich thanked everyone for the donations made to the YWCA Victims’ Resource Center in response to a challenge from the Zonta Club.
Members were reminded that the first meeting of the new year, to be held on Jan. 3, will be Sharing and Exchanging Books. Joan Mansour reminded members of the Hospital Luncheon, which will be held Jan. 17.
A “little Christmas elf” informed the group that Norma Fitzgerald celebrated her 97th birthday in September. Everyone sang “Happy Birthday” to her.
Gae Colligan and Betty Hach presented a Christmas program.
Members were challenged to answer trivia questions about Christmas, Christmas movies and Christmas songs. Lois Schueltz accompanied the group on the piano as Christmas carols were sung.
Of course, Christmas wouldn’t be complete without gifts. Members brough wrapped White Elephant gifts. During the trivia games, gifts were awarded, but not opened. After everyone had a gift, members formed a circle, holding their gifts. Betty Hach read a Christmas story. Every time the word “right” was read, the gifts had to move to the person on the right. If the word “left” was in the story, the gifts were passed to the person on the left. When the story ended, the gift each person was holding was her Christmas gift.
After the Christmas festivities, cookies and coffee or tea were served. Thanks was extended to the Tea Committee consisting of Carol Shannon, Ann Esch, Sandra Haley and Kathy Herzog.
The next meeting will be Card Day, held at 11.m. Dec. 13 at the Bradford Area Public Library.
