PORT ALLEGANY — Behind double-digit nights from Cailey Barnett, Bree Garzel and Shannon Curfman, Port Allegany rolled to a resounding 56-27 win over Johnsonburg in non-league girls basketball action.
Barnett led Port A (2-1) with 18 points, and added seven assists and seven steals. Curfman posted 17 points, including 13 in the first half, and eight rebounds, while Garzel scored 10 points and chipped in six rebounds and five assists. Evin Stauffer pulled down seven boards for the Lady Gators.
“It was a bounce back from Saturday’s loss. We’re just trying to get our feet under us at this point in the season,” said Port A head coach Jamie Evens.
He added, “Johnsonburg is young. We forced quite a few turnovers and tried to speed them up. But they have some young talent and good shooters, so in the years to come they’ll be a good team.”
Kaci Stelene led the Lady Rams (0-3) with 13 points, including a 5-for-6 performance at the charity stripe.
Johnsonburg makes the short drive to St. Marys for a game at Elk County Catholic Wednesday, while Port A visits Cameron County Thursday night.
