What is happening in your part of the region?
In an effort to bring as much local news as possible to our readers, The Era has started a weekly segment called “Checking In.”
Reporters will be talking to municipal officials for an overview of current happenings in the municipality. Today’s focus is on Smethport Borough.
While the budget didn’t have any expected large increases or decreases for the upcoming year, Smethport Borough Secretary/Treasurer, Melody DeLuca had some big news about staff changes.
According to DeLuca, longtime sewer plant operator Dave Ball will be retiring in April, and David Hughes is being brought in to train for the position. In addition, the borough recently hired Tina Oars as the new part-time utility clerk.
As for other new developments, DeLuca mentioned work will have to be done on replacing water lines on Water Street sometime next year, as well as updates to the park to make it more ADA accessible.
Business is going on in the borough as usual, as they had an adjourned budget meeting on Nov. 12th.
“We will be having a meeting to approve the proposed budget at 7 p.m. on Dec. 18th,” added DeLuca.
For those interested in attending, Smethport Borough council meetings are at 7 p.m. the first Monday of every month at the borough office.
