The Friends of Hanley Library at the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford will present its 27th annual “Seasonal Readings” on WESB and its affiliated stations.
Dr. Don Ulin, associate professor of English, will offer a program to commemorate the life and works of American poet Mary Oliver, who died on January 2019 at the age of 83.
One of the most beloved poets of her generation, Oliver was a recipient of the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize. Her work reflects a deep communion with the natural world and combines dark introspection with joyous release. Oliver has been compared to Emily Dickinson, with her deeply personal and thoughtful observations on the natural world.
The show will air three times: at 9:30 a.m. Dec. 20 and 9:15 a.m. Dec. 21 on WESB 1490AM and B107.5 and at 6 a.m. Dec. 21 on 100.1 WBRR. Following the broadcasts, the show will be available online at http://wesb.com/on-demand.
The annual radio readings on WESB began in 1992 with the late Dr. Robert C. Laing Jr., professor emeritus at Pitt-Bradford. Since 2001, Ulin has carried on this treasured Bradford tradition.
The Friends of Hanley Library was founded in 1990 to strengthen relations between the community and Pitt-Bradford’s Hanley Library. The Friends also acquaint area residents with what the library has to offer by sponsoring cultural and educational programs, usually related to books and their authors.
