KANE — The Kane Area Community Center will host an event Dec. 19 intended to keep the conversation going as it relates to the opioid crisis.
A Narcan Overdose Reversal Training and Free Distribution will be held at 5:30 p.m., presented by ADAS Alcohol and Drug Services Inc. Then, at 6 p.m., 25-year-old Kane native Kyle Fiscus and his mother, Shelly Williams, will share their story about addiction, recovery and hope.
Local service providers, resources, and information will also be on hand.
In the words of Fiscus himself, “Dec. 13, 2016 is the day that my life changed forever. Today I live in a small beach town in South Florida. I have the privilege of working in the treatment industry and I have the opportunity to help others and be of service on a daily basis. I see people of all different demographics checking into rehab every day and I never hear that it’s getting any better out there. I know that single-handedly, there is only so much that one can do to make a difference in the world, but I believe that when we join together we can make a much larger impression upon the problem as a whole.
“I am by no means a professional, but I am a person who has been to the dark bottomless pit of drug addiction and lived through the experience to tell others about it.”
Doors open at 5 p.m. The event is free and all are welcome to come.
