The community is invited to celebrate Museum Store Sunday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. this Sunday at the Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit Center, 2 Marilyn Horne Way. This worldwide event is held on the first Sunday after Thanksgiving in celebration of all the unique shopping and educational experiences museum stores have to offer.
“The Museum Store Association decided years ago that there’s Black Friday, Shop Small Saturday and Cyber Monday, so they decided to use the Sunday after Thanksgiving for a day that’s dedicated to non-profit retailers, such as museum stores,” explained Matthew Hileman, manager of the Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit Center. “We wanted to create an atmosphere that’s not the insanity of Black Friday; something laid back and more fun while you’re supporting a local community.”
During the event, everything in the store, with the exception of the 2019 Old City Hall ornament, will be 20% off, including clearance items.
“This is the only day we offer a discount of that size. It’s our biggest shopping day of the year,” noted Hileman.
While browsing the wide variety of toys, gifts, cards, clothing and everything else the store has to offer, shoppers will also be treated to various live product demonstrations so people can see some of the art kits available for sale in action.
In addition, those who attend Museum Store Sunday will also have the chance to win a trip for two to see Georges Bizet’s opera “Carmen” in Pittsburgh.
“We’ve partnered with Pittsburgh Opera for the third year in a row. Southern Airways Express will be providing the airfare,” said Hileman.
