What is happening in your part of the region?
In an effort to bring as much local news as possible to our readers, The Era has started a weekly segment called “Checking In.”
Reporters will be talking to municipal officials for an overview of current happenings in the municipality. Today’s focus is on Eldred Township.
In addition to standard road maintenance and preparing for winter, Eldred Township is also gearing for the eastside of their sewer system project, which will service around 90 homes, encompassing Barden Brook and Canfield Hollow, according to Eldred Township Supervisor, Jeffrey Rhinehart. The township completed the west side of the project in 2011.
“We have most of our paperwork done. We are not that far away from putting it out to bid — hopefully within the year,” he said.
Rhinehart expressed concerns regarding the lack of volunteer firefighters, as finding dedicated volunteer firefighters has become a crisis not only in Eldred Township, though in municipalities across the United States.
“They want volunteers to get more and more training and people don’t have the time,” Rhinehart explained.
One thing he is particularly proud of is how well township roads are maintained and the hard work of township employees.
“I get a lot of great feedback about our township roads and our township guys. It makes my job easier that they are so diligent,” Rhinehard said. “We currently have a two man road crew and work with neighboring municipalities sharing equipment and manpower.”
For those interested in attending Eldred Township meetings, they are held at 4 p.m. on the second Monday of Each month at the Eldred Township Building on West Eldred Road.
