A Rixford woman accused of sexual assault of a small child in 2006 will serve time in state prison.
Julie A. Tipton, 38, was sentenced Friday before President Judge John Pavlock to a term of six months to three years in state prison with credit of 59 days of time served, court records stated.
She must register as a sex offender for 10 years, and she must obtain an updated mental health evaluation, too.
Tipton entered a guilty plea in June prior to the start of her trial to a charge of indecent assault of a child less than 13, a first-degree misdemeanor. In consideration of the plea, charges of rape of a child, corruption of minors and incest were dismissed.
Similarly, her husband, William Tipton, is serving a term of 25 to 50 years in prison after being convicted of indecent assault of a person less than 13 years old and corruption of minors.
At the time of her sentencing hearing on Friday, Julie Tipton was already serving a sentence of 22 to 44 months in prison for a prior case in which she conspired with William Tipton to allow him to possess a firearm when he was not permitted to do so.
William Tipton was also charged in the firearm incident and was sentenced to five to 10 years in prison for the case.
