A benefit for Nathan Harris will be held on Nov. 23 at noon at the VFW Bradford Post 212, 94 Barbour St. The event will be child friendly until 9 p.m.
Nathan was a healthy 2-year-old boy until Jan. 18, when his family found him in his room unresponsive. After being sent home with no answers, a second hospital confirmed he was having seizures and referred him to neurology. On May 2, Nathan was diagnosed with epilepsy by a pediatric neurologist in Pittsburgh. Since then, he has been battling with many different types of seizures.
The benefit aims to raise money to cover the cost of a service dog to alert when a seizure is going to present itself and a special alert camera and monitor for his room, as well as to pay for future doctor appointments in Erie and Pittsburgh.
Nathan’s mother and siblings recently moved back to Bradford to be close to family for support with the kids in case hospitalization is needed again. His father is currently working 4 hours away to support his family and make sure they continue to have benefits.
“Nathan having a service dog would help relieve the worry. With Brent being away from his family, knowing that someone, even a dog, is there to help me through the day would be a sigh of relief,” explained Jordan Harris, Nathan’s mother.
Food at the benefit will include a $10 spaghetti dinner, $5 taco buffet and a lemonade stand hosted by Ryan and Brent Harris. Delivery is available for spaghetti dinners from noon to 4 p.m. by calling 814-203-3077 or 814-331-7541.
Entertainment will include a live DJ (McDee Jay), 50/50 raffle, chinese auction and a cash bar.
