Write-in votes appear to have decided a race for Mount Jewett Borough Council.
The McKean County elections office has added write-in votes to the unofficial totals available at the county’s website. With those numbers posted, it appears that a last-minute write-in campaign waged by Chuck Paar and Brett Morgan was a success.
In the race, Mark Dillenbeck received 117 votes, while Morgan received 90 and Chuck Paar received 85 votes. There were three open seats to fill.
In Norwich Township, James Thomas received 92 votes, appearing to defeat Barb Sherman, who received 52.
In Otto Township, Michael Ogilvie received 282 votes for township supervisor.
In Port Allegany, Tammy Boyd was the highest vote-getter with 244, Kate Kysor had 220 and Cory Thomas had 203 votes.
In Sergeant Township, Chris Carlson captured the supervisor’s seat with just four write-in votes. There were no candidates on the ballot.
“In the general election, one vote can capture the seat,” explained Allison Coast, director of voter registration for the county. In the primary, a write-in candidate would have to have the same amount of votes that it would take to be on the ballot — in this case, 10. In the general election, it is the candidate with the greatest number of votes who takes the seat.
In some school districts, the results of the board races are awaiting the certification of votes in area counties before completion. Kane, Oswayo Valley and Port Allegany all have portions of other counties included inside the districts’ boundaries.
In the Otto-Eldred School District Region III, Kelly Bruno won a two-year term with 126 votes to Tracey Green’s 57 votes.
In Smethport Area School District Region III, Jason Gary Tronetti earned 441 votes, while write-in Kraig Okerlund earned 27, which appears to be enough to earn him one of the two seats open for school board.
Several seats were uncontested as well.
