SMETHPORT — Two residents shared their concerns Monday with Smethport Borough Council about speeders and careless drivers in the western section of town.
Not only are some drivers going too fast, but they’re not always staying in their lane in the Long and West Water streets and Hilton Avenue area where there is increased traffic and where children walk, play and ride their bikes, according to the residents. “Something needs to be done or there will be injuries,” the residents agreed.
One of the citizens said, “Similar complaints were made about a year ago and nothing was done.”
The residents did offer some suggestions such as placing mirrors and appropriate signs at the areas.
Council President Greg Rounsville said the borough will place 25 miles-per-hour speed limit signs at the location.
Council will hold an adjourned meeting at 7 p.m. on Nov. 12 for budget planning.
In other business, council approved a resolution appointing Borough Secretary-Treasurer Melody DeLuca as borough liaison with Berkheimer Associates, the appointed collector of certain borough taxes.
Council met in an executive session for 50 minutes to discuss personnel matters.
