Area residents may want to grab their heavier coats and hats, as Greg DeVoir, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in State College, said temperatures are expected to become colder when a cold front moves in later in the week. With an expected mix of snow and rain showers, people may want to grab an umbrella, too.
Today, residents can expect cloudy skies with a high near 50 degrees, while tonight will bring a low around 38 degrees, with a chance of rain showers after 7 p.m.
“There will be a 40% chance of snow showers both Tuesday and Wednesday,” explained DeVoir.
Tuesday will bring a high of 46 degrees and a low of 29 degrees, while Wednesday will bring a high of 45 degrees, with a low of 37 degrees.
Thursday, the forecast calls for a high near 40 degrees, with a 40% chance of precipitation, including a mix of rain and snow in the morning, transitioning to snow showers in the afternoon. Thursday night, temperatures will drop to 22 degrees, with a 50% chance of snow, possibly up to 3 inches.
Friday, expect a high of 32 degrees with a 40% chance of snow. Temperatures are expected to drop to 21 degrees Friday night.
“Beyond Friday, a shot of cold air will come through and we may experience some typical lake effect snow,” said DeVoir, though he emphasized that he didn’t feel the snow would accumulate.
