ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — St. Bonaventure University’s 2020 Commencement Ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m. on May 17.
The ceremony was moved from the morning to accommodate Dr. Dennis DePerro, university president, whose son graduates from Providence College Sunday morning.
“The Board of Trustees believes it’s imperative that the president presides over Commencement,” said John Sheehan, Board of Trustees chair. “This reasonable solution allows Dr. DePerro to fulfill obligations to the two most important things in his life: his family and St. Bonaventure.
“Dr. DePerro has meant so much to the university in the short time he’s been here that moving the ceremony a few hours is the least we could do.”
DePerro consulted with leaders of the Student Government Association and Faculty Senate to seek input from their groups in case there were any major objections to the proposed change; none surfaced.
Other Commencement Weekend events on Friday and Saturday will remain in their traditional time slots. Students will need to be moved out of their residence facilities by 10 p.m. on May 17.
