CLARION — Defending District 9 Class A champions Clarion kept their quest for a repeat intact with a 25-13, 25-14, 25-9 quarterfinal victory over Otto-Eldred Tuesday.
Reilly Raught led the Lady Terrors with five digs, four kills and two blocks. Haley Cousins added two kills and seven digs and Jade Spinney had eight digs and an ace.
For the second-seeded Lady Bobcats, Korrin Burns had 13 digs to go along with her nine digs and five aces. Kait Constantino added eight kills, eight digs and six aces for Clarion, which will host third-seeded A-C Valley in the semifinals Thursday.
“Clarion is a really good team,” Otto-Eldred head coach Fawn Miller said. “Looking forward, that makes us think about what we need to do to be more aggressive attackers and what we need to do defensively.”
The Lady Terrors ended their 2019 campaign at 15-7.
“It makes us look forward to next year and what we have coming back,” Miller added. “We are excited.”
Cranberry 3, Oswayo Valley 0
SENECA — The Lady Green Waves were swept 25-18, 25-15, 25-17 to Cranberry in a season-ending defeat in the Class A quarterfinals.
Jadyn Brabham had eight kills six service points, two aces, four blocks and five digs to power Oswayo Valley, while Avaree Kellert added ten digs, five kills, two blocks and an ace. Macy West chipped in five kills, four service points, five blocks and a dig.
“Can’t be more proud of these girls,” Oswayo Valley head coach Rachelle Kellogg said. “We’ll be coming back strong next year.”
Elk County Catholic 3, Johnsonburg 2
ST. MARYS — Johnsonburg took two of the first three sets (26-24, 22-25, 25-23), but top-seeded Elk County Catholic rallied to take the final two (25-20, 15-10 to escape the Ramettes’ upset bid.
Taylor Newton led ECC with 29 kills and teammate Julia Aikens added 12. Ellie Fledderman controlled the court with 42 set assists and Madyson Dellaquila added four kills and three blocks.
For eighth-seeded Johnsonburg, Jenna Morgan had 17 kills, Hailey Zimmerman had 40 assists and Emma King (14 kills) and Alaina Sherry (12 kills) sparked the offense.
The Lady Crusaders host Cranberry in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
