DUKE CENTER — The Otto-Eldred volleyball team held its annual ‘Pink Night’ last Wednesday. Although all members on the volleyball team contribute by preparing basket raffles, the annual event’s master planning is always in the care of the juniors on the volleyball team.
This year the quartet of junior planners included Haley Cousins, Emmalee Sheeler, Reilly Raught, and Morgan Dalton. These girls not only organized the bake sale and chinese auction, but also collected local donations throughout the community. The team raised a grand total of $2,319.37 this year.
Last year, the district’s school board asked that events such as these donate raised funds to local organizations. For the second year in a row, the team will be donating to the Pink Pumpkin Project based in Olean, N.Y.
“The Pink Pumpkin Project has provided support to many cancer patients in our community, some very near and dear to our hearts, and this is why we chose them to receive our donations,” said Reilly Raught. “The PPP provides financial to emotional support for local women and men in surrounding areas that are currently undergoing breast cancer treatments.”
Along with the families of the volleyball players helping with basket donations, many teachers, coaches and local businesses donated to the event.
Gift certificates were donated by the Ybar, The Blue, Reds & Trudy’s, Fox’s Pizza Den and Quinn Aubrey’s. Monetary donations were given by Close’s Lumber Co., Cousins Designs, Taylor and Armstrong and the Rixford Well.
The Otto-Eldred Music Boosters held a ‘soup’s on’ during the event and donated half of their proceeds, as well. The Otto-Eldred Sports Boosters donated all their proceeds from the evening’s 50/50, and the winner of the drawing, Carol Curtis, donated her winnings back to the Pink Pumpkin Project. The evening’s event was well-attended by the local community and visiting Bradford fans.
