What is happening in your part of the region?
In an effort to bring as much local news as possible to our readers, The Era has started a weekly segment called “Checking In.”
Reporters will be talking to municipal officials for an overview of current happenings in the municipality. Today’s focus is on the Borough of Lewis Run.
According to Lewis Run Borough Council President Irv Swartz, the most prominent issues facing the borough are the replacement of a water line that broke across the creek on Lincoln Drive and the launch of the East Main Street project.
“We have to get the water line back in service for fire protection and water quality for a couple of houses,” explained Swartz.
With a projected cost of approximately $600,000, the East Main Street project will entail installing 1,800 feet of blacktop, new sidewalks and widening the road in some places.
“We also have a few minor road projects that should be done this month sometime,” said Swartz. Contracts have already been let for the aforementioned road projects on Julie Lane and Chris Drive.
Lewis Run Borough also recently sent their 2020 budget for review, which will be advertised next month.
“The woman in our office has done a great job on our budget, with no rate increases or anything this year. It looks good to me. I’m proud of our people,” said Swartz.
Talking with Swartz, one can tell he is quite proud of the progress the borough has made in the past several years.
“We’ve had two new bridges put in on Main Street. This past winter we put a new bridge in on Lincoln Avenue,” explained Swartz. “We also put all new meters throughout the whole town. I think we’re progressing quite well.”
He encourages citizens to bring any problems or issues they have to the attention of the Lewis Run Borough office. “Just call the borough and make a complaint and it will be taken care of,” he said.
