Excuses for a drive: Here are more excuses to enjoy the fall foliage and head somewhere fun. The following can be found near Erie:
— Pumpkintown, held at Mason Farms Market, 839 Peninsula Drive, features a haunted house, corn maze, pumpkin slide, obstacle course, pumpkin jump, funhouse and more.
The garden center transforms into a sea of mums, pumpkins, cornstalks and gourds. Admission is free but the purchase of tickets is required for rides and jumps. Pumpkintown is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Oct. 31.
— Take a haunted history tour at Union Station.
Located at The Brewerie at Union Station, 123 W. 14th St., Haunted History Tours last two hours and cost $15 per person. These tours are held on Wednesdays and Fridays throughout October. Call 454-2200 for more information.
For some Jamestown, NY, fun, the Boo Bash is set for the Chautauqua Mall from 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 26.
The event, hosted by Chautauqua Mall, includes “crafts, snacks, games, trick or treating and more.”
Meanwhile, in Warren, the annual Haunted House and Horse-drawn Trolley Tour is set for 6 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 11 & 12.
The event is presented by the Warren County Historical Society. The cost for the trolley ride is $9 in advance and $10 at the door, but tickets go fast so advance purchase is recommended. Admission to the Haunted House is included with a trolley ride ticket, or $3 for those who choose to forgo the trolley.
During the trolley ride, stories will be told about “Freak Accidents and Intentional Acts” and are based on true stories from the historical society’s archives.
For one more fun event a little closer to home, consider visiting the second Annual Carved Pumpkin Walk from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday or 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday at Evergreen Park in Kane. Enjoy hundreds of illuminated, carved pumpkins, scarecrows, food & games. The fee is $3 per person, $10 for a group of four, and children under five are free.
