CLEARFIELD — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is alerting motorists that drivers travelling on Route 120 in the Driftwood area may encounter temporary stops along the roadway.
Starting as early as today, crews will be drilling caissons as work begins on a slide correction and retaining wall project.
The work location on Route 120 is between the Route 555/120 intersection and the Route 872/120 intersection in Gibson Township, with the eastbound lane closed. Temporary traffic signals are in place for the project but during work hours, extended traffic stops are needed to allow for drilling in as safe a manner as possible. Stops of up to 15 minutes in each direction are possible. The traffic stops are preferable to implementing a lengthy detour. Drilling work and extended traffic stops are expected through mid- October.
During night-time hours, the temporary signals will enforce an alternating traffic pattern. Once drilling is complete, the remainder of the project will take place under an alternating traffic pattern controlled by the temporary traffic signals.
Construction of the retaining wall is expected to last through mid-November. Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $851,000 project.
