PUNXSUTAWNEY — The boys golf trophy case at Bradford High School continues to get fuller.
For a third consecutive season, the Bradford boys golf team will be taking home championship-winning hardware after topping DuBois 363-400 at Punxsutawney Country Club to capture the District 9 Class AAA title.
Bradford’s Spencer Cornelius had a strong round, shooting 12 strokes lower than anyone else to lead the Owls with a 77. Thomas Anderson had an 89 and Joe Gorse (96) and Matthew Frantz (101) rounded out the Bradford foursome.
“The guys played great today,” said head coach Travis Faulker, who has been at the helm for all three titles. “We got out of the van, had a great warmup, and Spencer basically showed why he is one of the top golfers in all of District 9.
“He had the low score in all of Class AA and AAA and is getting back to his old self.”
Cornelius paced his scoring with three birdies to go with nine pars.
Faulkner noted that Gorse has been a part of all three of Bradford’s most recent titles.
Kaleb Hand (90) and Dayne Bowman (95) were the top two golfers for DuBois and will advance to the second day of Districts for a shot at an individual title along with Cornelius and Anderson.
The top two scores from that group will go on to the Western Regional in October.
In Class AA, Ridgway beat Punxsy 344-347 to win the team title.
Zack Zameroski and Eric Christoff led the Elkers with rounds of 81, while Smethport’s Connor Alfieri and Kane’s Curtis Barner tied for a Class AA-low of 78.
