A Leeper man died and two people were injured when two vehicles collided Saturday afternoon on U.S. Route 6 in Hamlin Township.
Duane V. Schmader, 74, of Leeper, was transported via EmergyCare Ambulance to a landing zone near the scene, but later died of his injuries, Lewis Run-based state police reported.
According to police, at 3:41 p.m. Saturday in front of 9376 Route 6, a sport utility vehicle driven by Schmader was traveling west, while an SUV driven by Emily A. Dissen, 23, of Baltimore, Md., was traveling east. Schmader’s SUV crossed the double yellow line into the eastbound lane, striking Dissen’s SUV.
Schmader’s SUV came to rest off the westbound berm facing north, while Dissen’s SUV came to rest facing north off the eastbound berm, police said.
Dissen was transported by the Bradford City Fire Department to a landing zone, where she was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Altoona for treatment of injuries of unknown severity; also, a passenger in Schmader’s SUV was transported by Wilcox Fire Department to UPMC Kane for treatment of minor injuries, according to police.
Police did not identify the injured passenger.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
Also assisting on scene were the Mount Jewett, Hamlin Township, Kane and Smethport volunteer fire departments; Mount Jewett Ambulance; and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
