COUDERSPORT — Administrators at the Coudersport Public Library invite Downton Abbey fans to celebrate the nationwide release of “Downton Abbey: The Movie” by attending the second-ever Downton Abbey Tea from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the library.
The event will provide visitors an opportunity to chat with fellow Downton fans about the new movie and relive favorite moments from the series over an English tea. The tea will feature scones with clotted cream, biscuits and other treats.
The event will also feature Downton trivia, vintage clothing displays from the Potter County Historical Society, memorabilia from the Downton Abbey Exhibition in New York, giveaways and more.
“Our first Downton Abbey Tea, held in the winter of 2016 when the series was ending, was an enormous success,” remarked Teri McDowell, library director. “Nearly 100 fans attended, and several of those — along with many who couldn’t make it to that event — asked if we’d do it again. We promised we would if the series ever continued, or if there was a movie. So now we’re keeping our promise. We hope this event will be as much fun as the first.”
Period dress is welcome, but not required. McDowell suggested participants can pull out their Eliot Ness Fest costumes from the community festival held this summer. She said given the time span of the series, period attire from Edwardian to Flapper is appropriate.
RSVPs are appreciated but not required. Stop in at the library at 502 Park Ave. or call 274-9382 during operating hours for more information. The event is free, but donations toward the program cost and library operations are gratefully accepted.
