WASHINGTON, D.C. — Following news reports that China will exempt U.S. exports of soybeans and pork from additional tariffs, U.S. Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson, a senior member of the House Agriculture Committee and Chairman of the Subcommittee on General Farm Committees and Risk Management, said it was good news.
“(Friday)’s reports that China will exempt U.S. soybeans and pork from additional tariffs is welcomed news and a step in the right direction for American farmers,” Thompson said.
“Given China’s slowing economy, high demand for soybeans and swine flu affecting domestic hog populations, there remains a lot of room for cooperation,” he said.
“I applaud the White House for putting American agricultural producers first and believe these mutually beneficial agreements will lead to more productive trade talks later this fall. There is much to be done and farm country is relying upon a positive outcome, in addition to a vote on the USMCA. Our farm families deserve as much.”
