The Marilyn Horne Museum and Exhibit Center will kick off another year of free concerts and events on Sept. 27 with the return of the Heimat Quartet.
The group of young artists performed in Bradford at this same time last year before going on to their Carnegie Hall debut in New York City this past spring.
Heimat will perform works by Haydn, Schulhoff, and Brahms. The free concert will take place in the Harriett B. Wick Chapel on the campus of Pitt-Bradford at 8 p.m. on Sept. 27.
Founded in Boston in 2014, the Heimat Quartet has performed across the United States, in Europe, and in South America. Other notable engagements have included performances and masterclasses at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Duke University, Boston Conservatory, the College of New Jersey, Dickinson College, and Mercer College, among others.
Among other upcoming events to be presented by the museum is a Nov. 22 concert for strings and organ to be held downtown at the Church of the Ascension, the church where Marilyn Horne sang with the choir as a child. The museum’s popular Dickens Christmas Market will return on Dec. 14 with costumed carolers and Victorian Father Christmas and an expanded list of vendors from around the state. On Dec. 20, the museum will present the last concert of 2019 with “Christmastime is Here”, a performance of the iconic music created by jazz legend Vince Guaraldi for the beloved animated classic, “A Charlie Brown Christmas”.
Marilyn Horne Museum Manager Matthew Hileman commented, “This is our third year presenting these community engagement programs. The turnout continues to grow, and I expect this year to see the biggest crowds we’ve had yet.”
In addition to the concert schedule the museum has continued to grow and develop its museum store. The MHM will once again join museums from around the world this year in celebrating Museum Store Sunday on Dec. 1. The museum has continued to expand its inventory and will have hundreds of new items in time for the holiday shopping season.
The highlight of the year will be unveiling of the 2019 Bradford Christmas Ornament. The 24-karat gold-plated ornament design is under tight wraps as the artwork for this year’s design is being specially created by a local artist.
