ST. MARYS — Aaron Clark called his team’s first-half performance “flat.”
But three goals from Howie Stuckey, as well as a late tally from Simon Burleson, sent Port Allegany to a 5-3 non-league win over Elk County Catholic in a back-and-forth game.
The Gators (4-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the Crusaders responded with two of their own to tie the game just before the half.
“Got up to a 2-0 lead, and I don’t know if we got comfortable but they countered and played with a whole lot of high energy,” Clark said.
After Port A scored a goal out of halftime to take a 3-2 lead, the Crusaders again responded. The goal-ahead goal — scored by Burleson with four minutes to play — put the Gators ahead for good.
“We picked up the energy level,” Clark said. “I know it sounds cliche, but they played harder in the second half.”
Isaac Wortman scored two goals for the Crusaders, while John Pettis made seven saves in net.
Port Allegany’s Ty Guilds made 11 stops for the Gators, which have won three straight.
Coudersport 8, DuBois Central Catholic 3
DUBOIS — Behind five second-half goals, Coudersport rolled to its third straight victory in a non-league game over DuBois CC.
Aristotle Smith and Jonathan Barroquerio provided the offense for the Falcons (3-1), as each forward netted two goals and two assists in the game.
Ethan Ross contributed two tallies, and Owen Ott and Christian Furman had a goal each for Coudersport, which was leading just 3-1 at the half.
Coudy’s Rosalyn Page made nine saves in 60 minutes of game action, while Nash Delp picked up a save in relief.
The Falcons return to the pitch Saturday at home against Kane.
