SMETHPORT (EC) — The Bucktail Post #138, Smethport American Legion, will conduct a brief National Day of Service and Remembrance ceremony at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday on the steps of the McKean County Courthouse.
This day is set aside to pause and reflect on the devastating 9/11 attacks on America carried out by terrorists on the Twin Towers of New York City’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and remember the efforts of the brave first responders. A fourth plane crashed in a field in Shanksville.
Almost 3,000 people died in the worst terrorist attacks on U.S. soil.
This is also a good time to give back to the community by helping those less fortunate, contribute to the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund to benefit the victims’ dependents or visit the 9/11 Memorial and Museum.
