WHOOPS: It’s come to our attention that we neglected to give some pretty important information in a story about the Kinzua Valley Trail Club Moon Dance to be held in Westline on Sept. 28.
We gave you the who, what, when and where, but not the how — how to get tickets, that is.

The trail club is an all-volunteer group that relies on memberships, grants, sponsorships and donations from individuals, businesses and groups that believe in the club’s mission: Providing a first-class trail in the heart of beautiful Kinzua Valley.

A reader sent in a note regarding the recently demolished ARMY/NAVY Surplus Store on East Main Street.
The reader noted that particular location was home to “Seaward Variety Store” for more than 50 years. The store offered both local and out-of-town newspapers for sale, as well as magazines and “other sundry items,” per our reader. The proprietor was C.D. Seaward.
The Seaward name in the area came from settler Joseph Steven Seaward, who built a home here in 1843 and lived at 129 Seaward Avenue.
His farmhouse at that location was also home to Ralph Caverly, a descendent who worked as the McKean County Recorder of Deeds. This particular residence was later removed as part of the Route 219 Expressway Project in 1973-74.

TODAY: Sept. 7 is National Salami Day, National Tailgating Day, as the first Saturday of September, and National Neither Rain nor Snow Day.
It is so recognized because of the post office motto, “Neither snow nor rain not heat nor gloom of night, stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds” and recognizes the day the New York Post Office building opened in 1914.
Finally, it is also World Beard Day.
